What To Expect

Worship services are casual at Hazen Christian Fellowship. Many people wear jeans or or dress "business casual." We encourage you to arrive about 10 minutes before the service starts so you can grab a cup of coffee and meet people. Our services start with music, often songs you might recognize if you listen to Christian radio - Chris Tomlin, Lauren Daigle, Hillsong. The pastor  teaches a bible-based message with practical application to help you live out your faith during the week.  On the first Sunday of each month we celebrate communion, but there’s no pressure to participate if you don’t want to.  Services are usually a little over an hour, and then you’re welcome to hang out and talk with people afterwards

If you have children under the age of 3, we have a team of loving, trained volunteers in our secure nursery area.  We encourage school students, to join their parents in service.

Our Story

It was January 1996 when, after traveling through a terrible blizzard, Pastor Bob and Ms Becky Pittman finally arrived in North Dakota coming from Texas. They felt very strongly that God had called them to North Dakota to begin a church in Hazen. Beginning with a Back Yard Bible Club in the North Star II Park, they soon felt moved to start a Team Kids Program in the old church building at 502 4th Ave NE. The building was acquired with a loan from the Dakota Baptist Convention for $10,000. In December 1996, 25 children heard the Christmas story illustrated with a live baby from the community representing the baby Jesus.

Interest continued to grow until they began holding Adult Bible Studies in a home in Hazen. By 2000, they were conducting church services in the antiquated church building. As the church continued to grow in numbers, the building was no longer adequate and after praying and looking for 2 years, in April 2003, God provided approximately 4 acres west of town behind the RV park on 12th Ave SW.

The groundbreaking began in April and concrete was poured in May, just in time for a group of 40 senior adult volunteers from First Baptist Church, Fayetteville, GA. They immediately went to work and had the building framed up in 4 days. Later a group from First Baptist Church, Delhi, LA came and put up sheetrock. A group of Baptists came from Flippin, AR came and helped finish the siding and brick work. The congregation continued working on the building over the next few months building cabinets, finish carpentry, electrical work, even teenagers helped put up insulation.

The congregation began having services there in July 2003. The building was not finished, but they were excited because it was evident God was faithful and had provided everything for His Glory. The church continued to grow in numbers and maturity. In April 2006, 15 new members were baptized and 2 deacons were ordained. June 4, 2006, the congregation celebrated the dedication of their new building to God. The Team Kids Program continued and had developed into an active youth group. A Women's Bible Study was started at Hot Stuff Pizza and eventually grew in such numbers that they had to move to the church building to accommodate its 45 attendees.

Pastor Bob and Ms Becky were lead to move back south and left in July 2014. Pastor Marc and Ms Kendra Quattlebaum came from Colorado to pastor the church in August 2019. The church is an active member of the Prairie Plains Baptist Association, the Dakota Baptist Convention, and the Southern Baptist Convention. The church is debt free and praises the Lord for His presence and blessings. The physical address is 102 12th Ave SW, Hazen, ND 58545.

Our Beliefs

Bible. We believe the Bible, consisting of 66 books, to be the inspired Word of God, without error, the revelation of His will for the salvation of men, and the divine and final authority for all Christian faith and life.

God. We believe in one God existing in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. God has always been and will always be the only God. There were none before Him and shall be none after him.

The Father. We believe that the Father created all things in heaven and on earth. He created human beings out of a love for us and desires a personal relationship with each of us.

Jesus. We believe that Jesus Christ is true God and true man, having been conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He lived a sinless life and died on the cross as the sacrifice for our sins according to the Scriptures. Furthermore, He arose bodily from the dead and ascended into heaven.

Holy Spirit. We believe that the ministry of the Holy Spirit is to convict men, making them aware of their sin and the salvation available through Jesus. He regenerates, guides, instructs, and empowers the believer for godly living and service.

Man. We believe that man was created in the image of God and sinless, but fell into sin and is therefore lost and subject to judgment. There is nothing man can do to save himself from this judgment, but he can accept the death of Jesus as punishment in place of his own eternal death by acknowledging God and accepting the free gift of salvation.

Salvation. We believe that the sacrificial death of Jesus Christ provides the only way of justification and salvation for all who believe. Any who attach additional works of man as a requirement for salvation are false in that they infer Jesus’ death is insufficient in and of itself to save and that human beings somehow have the capability to save themselves.

Accepting the Sinner, Denouncing the Sin. We believe that no sin is too big for God to forgive. Therefore, as Christians we should be open and eager to share the Gospel with everyone regardless of their sin or affliction. However, making Jesus Lord of our lives means striving towards holiness and turning from our sinful ways. Therefore, while being open to all sinners, Christians ought not accept, ignore, or promote any sin as permissible.

Baptism. We believe in complete water  immersion as act of obedience to Jesus Christ. Baptism is not a requirement for salvation, but an act to profess our belief and surrender to Jesus Christ.

Hazen Christian Fellowship is a member of Prairie Plains Baptist Association, Dakota Baptist Convention, and the Southern Baptist Convention.
